As professionals dedicated to guiding new parents through pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care, your role is informative and empowering. One powerful tool at your disposal in making a lasting impact is the use of teaching aids.

Here are a few tips to help harness the potential of teaching aids in creating more engaging, informative, and memorable learning experiences for your clients.

  • A picture is worth a thousand words. Visual aids, including anatomical models, diagrams, and charts, can simplify complex concepts. These visual aids can help parents feel more prepared.

Show your clients the progression of labor through dilation with our informative Cervical Dilation Easel Display.

Explain baby’s positioning in the normal processes of labor and birth with our English/Spanish One-to-One Chart Set, Bilingual (4).

  • Hands-on learning. Use birthing balls to demonstrate comfort positions, lactation models to teach proper latch techniques, and breast pumps to help parents understand the mechanics of expressing breastmilk. These interactive aids encourage active participation and build practical skills.

Model realistic demonstrations of breastfeeding positions with our Lactessa™ Breastfeeding Model.

  • Engage all senses. Incorporate multimedia elements, including videos showing various birth scenarios or newborn care techniques. These tools not only provide valuable insights but also engage both the auditory and visual senses. Videos can help parents become more familiar with environment and procedures of a delivery room, making the real experience more relaxed.

Check out our wide selection of childbirth education programs and PowerPoints from InJoy Health Education.

  • Reinforce learning with handouts. Provide your clients with take-home materials that offer practical guidance. These handouts serve as quick references for parents and provide reassurance or guidance in real-life situations.

Our Comfort Measures in Pregnancy Booklet gives mothers-to-be take-home information about relief measures for the discomforts of pregnancy.

Give new parents confidence with step-by-set instructions for diapering their newborn with our English/Spanish Loving Baby Care: Diapering Your Baby Tear Pad.

  • Embrace the digital age. Leverage digital tools to enhance the learning experience. Recommend mobile apps that offer contraction timers, breastfeeding trackers, and parenting support communities. These apps can help parents monitor their progress and connect with others on a similar journey.

  • Promote active participation. Create opportunities for parents to ask practical questions and address specific concerns. Customize your teaching to match the needs of your audience. A tailored approach ensures that your sessions are as practical as they are informative.
