Life in the Womb: Teaching Tools to Introduce
Expectant Parents to Their Developing Baby
Happy New Year, and welcome to 2025!
At Childbirth Graphics, every new year is an exciting time, full of opportunities to discover and develop more great childbirth education materials dedicated to nurturing healthy babies and growing healthy families. Our goal is to create the perfect teaching tools for childbirth and breastfeeding educators to use as they impart life-giving education to expectant and new parents.
A new year also brings all of us promises of new life and new possibilities. In the United States, for example, more than 10,000 babies will be born each day this year. For expectant parents, the prenatal period is an exciting time, a time when they are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their new baby and wondering what joys their new role as parents will bring. The prenatal period is also a time of questions: How big is my baby now? How is my baby developing? How is my baby changing inside the womb?
Childbirth Graphics has many effective and engaging pregnancy education products, models, and displays to help inform expectant parents about what is happening during every stage of their baby’s prenatal development. Read on to discover just a few of our engaging resources that are perfect to explain the amazing process of fetal development and life in the womb.
Fetal Development Model Sets
Created by childbirth educator and Childbirth Graphics Advisory Board Member Theresa Erichsen, RN, BSN, LCCE, FACCE, IBCLC, the Womb to Grow Model Set of nine weighted, pillowlike models is a great teaching tool to use with expectant teens or adult couples. Each model represents the average size and weight of a fetus at one of nine stages of development. The front of each model features a simple drawing of the developmental stage. The back has information on the developmental stage of the fetus illustrated on the front. Although the embryo model (4–6 weeks) is larger and heavier than the actual size and weight of a human embryo, the other eight models depict the actual size and weight of fetal development at the stage they represent, ranging from 0.4 g to 7 lb. Detailed presentation notes offer a variety of teaching applications, from prenatal care to the stages of labor and delivery.
Expectant parents can easily visualize their little ones growing in the womb during pregnancy and understand the importance of prenatal care by holding the four lifelike fetus models in our Fetus Model Set. Available with fetus models in beige or brown skin tone, the fetus models represent a developing baby at 12, 16, 22, and 30 weeks of pregnancy. The tactile, engaging models are made of our soft BIOLIKE™ material, enhancing their realistic feel. The model set is ideal for discussions about fetal development, healthy nutrition for growing babies, avoiding stress and harmful substances while pregnant, and getting enough rest to help a developing baby grow strong and healthy. The set comes with a convenient carrying case, making it ideal for on-the-go childbirth education classes and traveling childbirth educators.
Displays, Charts, and Tear Pads
Part of our classic line of With Child childbirth education resources, our With Child Life-Size Display is perfect for group or one-on-one instruction as well as for explaining each stage of fetal development. The sturdy, life-size, standing display shows the childbearing cycle through 6 weeks postpartum, including an image of the involution of the uterus after birth. The display’s overlapping, masterfully illustrated images grow as a baby develops throughout pregnancy. The 18" x 24" display also covers essential pregnancy education topics, such as making healthy choices for a healthy baby and knowing when you are in labor. The back of the display features our Timeline of Pregnancy, which is also available as a chart or tear pad in English or Spanish.
A customer favorite, our large (24" x 18"), laminated Fetal Development Chart follows pregnancy week by week, covering key moments of fetal development from conception to birth, starting from the first day of the last menstrual period. It colorfully highlights the sensitive periods of development for different organs, including the heart, upper and lower limbs, eyes, ears, brain and central nervous system, and more. The chart also emphasizes the importance of taking precautions to protect a developing baby, such as eating healthy foods and avoiding harmful substances. A tear pad version of the chart is also available that features additional information about organ development during the critical early weeks of pregnancy.
